The overall objective of the DACISLab project is to strengthen Romanian and Moldavian research in the field of Computing Continuum systems, supporting through open data and open science both scientific communities and non-scientific stakeholders (e.g., commercial companies, individuals, and governance authorities).

To this end, the best Romanian university in computer science, UPB, and a strong player in the applied distributed systems field, will be at the core of this project, in a consortium that includes the top-level, impactful, internationally leading research group in data science from Moldova (UTM). As the complexity of research related to Distributed Systems is high, and to leverage the capabilities of the consortium, we focus on systems offering data-intensive processing capabilities in an autonomous, robust, and scalable way, such as Computing Continuum Systems built for Big Data Processing.

To achieve the main objective, we will build a VLab of Excellence in Research on Computing Continuum with the initial consortium partners and create a roadmap to extend it with new collaborators interested in this research area (academic, industry, and educational organizations in interdisciplinary fields) using the concept of open data and open science.

DACISLab Main Objectives

Leveraging the experience gathered from previous research projects, DACISLab will enhance the science and technology (S&T) abilities of the participating institutions and will develop a comprehensive strategy covering all key actors (academia, commercial companies, individuals, and governance authorities), with four specific, mutually reinforcing objectives.

O1. Stimulate and increase the scientific excellence and innovation capacity in the area of Computing Continuum.

O3. Increasing the participation capacity of the research teams to the new research projects, by elaborating scientific project proposals for the announced competitions of the EU Horizon program, as well as to other international projects.

O2. Boost the visibility and availability of research results for the participating institution, especially in the widening organization, UTM.

O4. Raise staff’s research profile of UTM and of the institutions involved and align and contribute to the overall Research Strategy of both countries, which is focused on the ICT field, on Computing Continuum.

With these specific objectives in mind, considering the measurable results within the duration of the project we envision a strong sustainability of the project and long-term view for the created DACISLab and around the world as world-class research excellence VLab in the field of Computing Continuum, implementing the concept of open science and open data.
